Ceramics or Ceramic ware is a generic name used
to identify pottery or hollow clay sculpture fired at high temperatures
in a kiln or oven to make them harder and stronger. Types of Ceramic include
earthenware, stoneware, porcelain, fine china, bone china and terra
cotta. |

Earthenware
Earthenware is made from fired clay which is porous and permeable as
they are fired at relatively low temperatures. The reddishness of
earthenware is a result of the presence of iron oxide. Earthenware is
mistakenly referred to as "ceramics" or "ceramic ware"

such as feldspar and flint are added to the clay and fired at high
temperatures to enhance its durability
and strength. It is in between earthenware and porcelain in its character. Modern Stoneware can hold up to the demands of everyday lifestyle. |

Porcelainware
Porcelainware is a hard , white, translucent, impervious, resonant ceramic
body also known as china, invented in China between 200 and 900 BC. It
is made primarily of kaolin, a fine white clay and is fired at
relatively high temperatures which makes it stronger and more chip resistant. Porcelain has
good transparency making the possibility to cross between casual and formal
dinning styles. It can be used everyday
because of its durability and strength, but the patterns can also be used
on the finest dinning tables in a formal setting because of its
sophisticated styling. Porcelain is regarded as the most refined of all
ceramics. |
